just some more concepts. this time we have some confederate soldiers. they're mid-range elite enemies you'll be facing in the French campaign, along with some of the short early parts of the American campaign.

they're usually armed with assault grade and heavy weapons. such as, Thompson sub-machine guns, German MP-18s, and Browning Auto Rifles.

they also make use of small zeppelins for transportation and ground support.

These guys look incredibly cool, especially the (I'm assuming) officer with the Confederate battle flag and tri-corner cap; reminds me of the very first concept sketches you did for the alternate history timeline with modern American militia dressing up as the Founding Fathers.

They do seem to have copied the late-era uniform of the Imperial Germany Army: an implication that German support is helping sustain the C.S.A or that Confederate officers have observed events in Europe and decided to emulate the most successful army?

Also, are they wearing gas-hoods of some kind?

nah he's not an officer he's just a flag bearer, the most fanatical of the squad. the officers i plan on making will look much more formal almost no different from their first civil war forefathers. i'm glad you noticed the influence from the early sketches, because it's really come a long way from that. tricorns are definitely essential patriotic American regalia.

nope confederate troops wear heirlooms or reproduction uniforms from the last civil war. the big German influence on them is their webbing, you'll notice that their Y-straps and ammo pouches are of German make, plus plenty of them will be armed with MP-18s besides their captured thompsons.

yep pretty much those early sack gasmasks you see sometimes, it's got a bit of a "Klan" feel to it in my opinion.

Hmmmm! The general fanatical bent of these guys really appeals to me: would you mind if I did a short-piece involving them? With all fiscal and other royalties going to you as their creator of course. :D

Ah I see, I'm used to seeing and reading descriptions of Confederate troops in butter-nut or whatever rag-tag clothes they could get out of bad supply conditions: again that really does reinforce the zealous theme you've given them; charging into battle, screaming the Rebel Yell while wearing the uniforms of their forefathers. I'd still like to know where they got the German stuff from: blockade running?

I agree and it only furthers the idea of fanatics fighting to the bitter end which in turn only makes me want to write about them more.

Those small zeppelins used to be used for crop dusting, but have been converted to spray flames in addition to dangerous chemicals

Sure because the first civil war was totally about slavery. (Sarcasm)

well of course it wasn't the ONLY reason, but it was a very big reason, it's basically the reason the was started from an economic standpoint.

this second civil war though, wasn't started by slavery either. but with racism still being rife even into the 1910s, i don't find it at all surprising if some southerners decided to go back to their old ways, and bag some slaves once they've seceded.

The civil war was fought over the issue of states rughts. Slavery was simply the smaller issue that drew attention to the larger one.

yes i know that, that's the political standpoint, but the economic one had a very strong basis on slavery.

also one of the state rights that was disputed was the right to keep slaves.

but i'm not saying Lincoln waged war with the south solely over freeing slaves either. nor am i saying the average confederate soldier fought solely for the right to keep slaves, and not for more state independence from Washington.

I'm not denying that slavery had something to do with it. Nor am I trying to down play it's economic significance in the south but I an saying that it is emphasized way to much.

96% of the southern army consisted of non-slave owners, three slave states did not secede from the union, Robert E Lee was an abolitionist, William T Sherman was a slave owner who hated abolitionists, the confederate army did not segregate it's units and the highest ranking black solder of the war was a Confederate captain.

So why dose everyone act like it was all about slavery. It was about the 10th ammendment and the states rights to make their own laws. Yes in this case it pertained to slavery but that's not the end all be all.

clearly you didn't read what i just said.

did i ever say all confederate soldiers were slave owners? did i ever say it was ALL about slavery?

or are you just ranting about other people's opinions now?
