The Punks by NicklausofKrieg The Punks by NicklausofKrieg
here's something i thought up of to take a break from Warhammer

i was just testing my range when it comes to science fiction designs

the one on the left has a more cyberpunk feel, which borrows from modern designs with a few tech advanced looking tweaks to it, while the one on the right is pretty much what i usually draw (grimdark soldiers) this one has more of a mix of steampunk and dieselpunk which is pretty much old tech based off of historical stuff with a few advanced tweaks as well

i've also added a color palette for both of them (excluding black and white)

Honestly the one on the right is almost completely "dieselpunk," not a single bit of victorian style or steam powered tech on him, way more WW2 looking.

well there really wasn't anything i could do about it, i wanted to make him look old fashioned but at the same still of par with the one on the left, like you could imagine the two of them living in the same world.

well anyway i did mention diesel punk didn't i? i just also mentioned steampunk because it is a much more familiar term so people would get an idea of what i'm going for.

also you'd be surprised how broad some people's definition of steampunk are.

Just stating that it was more diesel than steam if anything, no offence meant.

Honestly I really do like what you did with the one on the right. You made him dieselpunk but you didn't go ridiculously over the top with it. You actually made it look like what WW2 ear tech and uniforms would grow to evolve into, keeping it all looking practical. The problem with many "______punk" artists (especially steampunk) is that they just take some modern or future tech and top hats and just randomly put hundreds of evidently useless gears and pipes on them. Yours doesn't suffer that, everything he has on him looks like it serves a purpose rather than just being there to "look cool"

Warning, bit of a rant ahead, no need to read just feel like venting:

Oh and trust me, I know how broad people's definition of steampunk are these days: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFCuE5…

Answer me this, why would you paint a 19th to very early 20th century rifle brass and put gauges, gears, and pipes on it when gunpowder has existed long before steam power? In a real steampunk setting weapons (as well as fashion and the such) would evolve exactly like they normally would have! Now stuff like cars, planes, even computers, anything that would have used an alternate power source used after steam (diesel, gas, electricity) would have adopted the use of steam and thus their evolution would have been much different, that would be an interesting subject to explore, especially the technical aspects, such as how steam would be used to move the car, how it could have been controlled, ext... Something that would have been fantastic to read in a novel or see someone make a picture of. But alas twas evidently not that interesting as most people seem to say "no, fuck you! You want 'steampunk' then fuck your genuine intrigue into mechanically sound Victorian era sci-fi and watch me glue more gears onto my tophat!"

She's a hard-boiled Cyberpunk cop.
He's an gruff Steam/Dieselpunk soldier.
Together, they fight crime!
