Britain's society is more flexible when it comes to the arcane and technological spectrum, with social classes being a bit more free to practice either one rather than the polarization practiced by other nations. and both magicers and technologists hold equal sway on things from their own departments

arcane arts still have a strong hold due to their roots in their culture, most upper class members of society are expected to have had an education in it. so it's a common sight to see magic being practiced by their military elite

Was this inspired by Arcanum?

definitely so, i might even go so far as to say that this story of mine is a fan-made spiritual successor to Arcanum. a lot of the story elements and characters were inspired by Arcanum.

I thought so. It truly is the best game ever made, and I think this game will succeed too.

So would his batman be his familiar as well as his servant? "Jenkins be a good chap and fetch me a bottle of brandy from the stash. The private stash! Oh and before I forget, bring the latest copy of Aleister Crowley's magical works "The Vision and the Voice" I believe."

:D Thanks, took me a while to remember Crowley's second name. Plus I think it would be quintessentially British for magical aristocrats to have servants and butlers to channel magical energy or just lug around the equipment they need: "Damn and blast it man, can't you do anything right Jenkins!?! The pentagram has to be completely symetrical or else the demonic bugger won't show up at all!"

Funny enough i have thought of faith/magic overlaps:
naturalism (praying to nature) = plant and animal command
polytheism = elemental magic (throwing fireballs and lightening bolts)
monotheism = shielding, healing, negation powers
Ancestor Worship = Necromancy
Evolution = Biomancery (using magic to manipulate life force energy)
Atheism = Technomancery

that's a very interesting point of view, though i don't think it's what i have planned for this

but it's definitely worthy of note for maybe another project

He's pretty cool, but the magical thing raises questions about religion and magic relationship

Actually, only the puritans were strictly against magic usage. They said it would rot your soul. Anyone who could control zombies, command nature, or throw a fireball was burnt at the stake.
King Henry the eighth created the church of england so that he could have many spell casters in his army without having the pope sanction all of them.

not really, most religious figures are magicers too.

it's mainly just dark necromancy and occult worshiping that shakes things up.
