Cross Of Iron by NicklausofKrieg Cross Of Iron by NicklausofKrieg
originally, a long time ago, before the prospect of my Alternate history was really going to be a video game, i often imagined it being an RPG, and during that time i thought up of all sorts of characters. mostly companions you'd meet all over the world.

this one such character. his name is Heinrich Scholz, you'll meet him in some old abandoned trenches rumored to be haunted, deep in an eerie wood. there you'll have to battle his undead former comrades. you'll notice he's different because he's the only one who doesn't seem to be attacking you.
by talking ot him you'll find out that they've become undead due to some unforseen sideeffects from some experimental combat tonics. he assumes that he has maintained his metal reasoning (unlike most of his comrades) because he was an avid user of mind enhancing tonics. he'll choose to join your party if you help him look for his iron cross and diary somewhere deep in the dugouts.

he's a mainly melee oriented follower using his hands and shovel, he can throw grenades from time to time as a ranged attack, and as a special ability he can command swarms of rats to attack enemies.

"(unlike most of his comrades)"

So ... some other undeads could also be talked to?
How would Heinrich take the fact that you're smashing through his friends to get to him?

Well their greatly deteriorating physical condition has driven many of then insane. Some are barely lucid at best, Heinrich is one of the last partially stable ones. Maybe Heinrich views their deaths as some type of release, he on the other hand wishes to stay until the last moment.

Also the cause of their state of undeath is up for revision, so the writing here isn't 100% accurate anymore.

So ... the pain induced by the rotting, decaying, etc. - plus the alteration of their brain tissue - weighed so heavily on their nerves that they became insanely ... insane? Damn. :-S
Well, in their shoes, I'd pretty much feel the same, I'd wager.

Heinrich is ... partially stable? So he might attack you, still? O_O
Is he the only one - with the others, less deteriorated than the rest - who can talk?
And once you find, or help him find his medal, what will he do?
Would he help you fending his squadmates off?

It's great. I like this idea of an undead soldier, still physically here, reasonably sane to talk to you and ask you to help him gain final rest. :-)

Thats going to show the Tommies whose the boss!

But seriously, love the rat swarm idea. Would be awesome if the Brits have a dedicated flamer unit though...
Who's the boss? The one with grenades and flame-throwers. :-)
Those make great pest-control tools. ^^
