Nice to see the Top 5 Coolest Regiments getting a good group shot together. Although I'm kind of curious why the Mordian looks so French when the Mordians are so US Marines that they are rumored speak in a language consisting entirely of "SEMPER FI!" in different tones.

Here's a reply I wrote a while back on the same topic. Pretty much explains everything.

Hm.  An interesting take.  Personally, it was the Judge Dredd look that had me convinced that they were American (Dredd seems to be THE American stereotype in grimdark settings) but I can certainly see your side (especially after looking up Franco-Prussian War French Uniforms).  Nice to see that I'm not the only one who thinks of the Elysians as American though.

The depressing "we're all going to die" look. Not so good on the medics.
Wait, the Kriegers have medics? Never thought of that.

I like them all, though I will always think of Mordians as Prussians. (looks French here)

Elysian and Cadian give off that modern warfare look.

Catachan that is not a Rambo lookalike? Cool.

Krieg soldier is cute, especially with the surgical mask. As if she feels naked without her gas mask.

they've always looked french to me plus i feel there are already enough Germanic inspired regiments but that's just me

that's exactly the look i use for them i mean it's the 41st millennium man, so why do i see some of the supposedly most well equipped/technologically advanced guardsmen in the IG running around in WW2 webbing!?

yep i just don't see enough catachans wearing the famous grungy ornate helemts from vietnam the red headbands and bald heads got kinda boring plus it's fun coming up with all sorts of helmet designs

well i'm glad you like her most people just complained about how she's not wearing her gasmask

Seeing how guardsmen number in the billions, I think it is a matter of cost when manufacturing cheap gear for so many (expendable) people. Plus, the Imperium has technologically regressed and rely solely on STC blueprints save for the innovations of radical Mechanicus priests.

hmm, the kasrkin and catachan should be a bit more muscley, and the elysian drop troops dont wear that much armour, and the Krieg regiments havent got medics, they have quartermasters instead.
sorry for being so picky, its a really great drawing.

well i don't really draw guardsmen (including catachans) as being that muscular in general

as for the Elysian i gave him a bit more armor than usual to one, give him a kinda futuristic look (since most sources portray them as being a kinda tech advanced regiment) and two, sources also mentions that they make use of carapace armor a tad bit more than most

as for the Krieg medic it was all me, i kinda like the idea of the death korps having medical units that're good at healing and more often dispensing combat drugs on the fly making guardsmen stay in the fight as long as possible 'til they finally break down for good (kinda inspired by the fact that the death korps treat their soldiers like machines) they will also be the ones to handle the death korps' vast arsenal of biological and chemical weapons

i imagine them coming in squads lead by quartermasters, basically a custom unit i thought up of to give the death korps a more "scary science" feel to the way they wage war. after all they're already considered extremists by the Machine Cult since they use cloning technology imagine what other kinda of freaky tech they can get their mitts on?

Nick nailed it but let me explain. The characters were from a RPG I made and ran on the net, game died but I loved the characters so dang much I requested a piece from Nick. He has a older version of this in his gallery.

I keep telling myself to vocus on my own settings instead of making, "fanfiction." That word makes me cringe. Still, it would be nice to make a story revolving around these characters.

If krieg medics aren't really good at physical medicine then maybe they are good at psychological healing. It would make sense given IRL that the foundation of psychology was in austria and germany and around the areas.
A good African name is Shakka Zulu, he was the man that united the tribes of africa against colonial europeans. Maybe you could break that name down and split it between another two Catachan characters.

nah Krieg medics are good physicians just in their own efficiently brutal and macabre way i'm not really sure how good they'd be as psychologists though due to their generally antisocial character but of course some of them may be exceptions

that catachan idea is also interesting since i've always envisioned catachan culture to be slightly tribal

In addition to the african Zulu culture, you should also try to incorporate the Maori of New Zealand. They are also a very tribal and warrior-centered culture. It would be great to see power lance wielding ogryn with maori facial tatoos.
Also: Ratlings fulfill the roles of battlefield merchants and snipers... design accordingly.

I discovered recently that the Kanak are a real tribe that resisted french colonials in polynesia.
Kind of hypocritical for the british makers of warhammer to sympathize with the kanak and have them be human but they the zulus be ork
